Google Latitude public location badge
This is so cool! I've personally been a fan of Google Latitude since it came bundled with Google Maps 3.0 for Symbian. Most of the time I have the app running in the background of my trusted Nokia 5800 and it works great.
Google Mobile Blog reports two new apps available relating to Latitude; The public location badge and Google Talk location. I personally think the first of these is of most interest. It allows you to create a public location badge showing your location either as accurate as possible or city level. See a picture of my badge on the right (which will soon be added to the sidebar of this page).
Google makes it quite clear that public means public - so add only if you really, really don't care if people know where you are! I personally don't really have anything to fear and most people know where I will most likely be anyway. If someone wants to know where I live or work there are easy, also public ways to find out.
Big Brother watching? Hardly. If someone really wants to spy on my location then by all means go ahead. I've never really understood why people are so afraid of the world spying on them. As if the world would really be interested in most of us normal people..
What do you think?
