42 Goals tracks your achievements, and is now social
One of my favorite web apps just got some fab new features, so it's time to finally mention a few words about it here on my blog.
42 Goals is an application that allows you to track many different types of goals. It's quite flexible, allowing you to quickly choose from a wide range of available popular goals or set up your own. The best part is the way the goals can be constructed. First you choose a type, which can be numeric, counter, boolean, time or stopwatch (premium only). Additional options are the unit of measurement (for example kg, km or whatever you like) and an aggregate function, which is how the values are handled in the graphs shown by the app. Aggregate options are none (show the last value), summation, average, maximum and minimum.
For example, if I wanted to measure how many times on average I do something daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, I could create a counter goal with the average aggregation. So far I have been able to build all my needed goals (currently 16) using the advanced goal building system.
Before 42 Goals has been just for yourself to track stuff with no ability to actually share the goals to others. Now that has changed today with a major release which brings the social element into achieving your goals (social pressure, it always helps in weight loss at least!). The new social page contains three tabs, one for showing graphs (up to 3 goals), sharing progress on goals (goals can be chosen separately) and notes, which allows you to write blog style posts for your page visitors. The social page is private by default, so there is no need to worry about your newly created goals ending up for the internet to see.
I highly recommend this site to anyone who wants to track their progress in any number of things. I've opened my social page for public access with a graph containing my weight graph and the number of geocaches I have found monthly. Check it out.
42 Goals is free to use. Premium account ($5 / month) adds a stopwatch goal type, group goals and priority support.
